Overview
Texas-based DynaCap LLC has filed a patent infringement lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas (Austin Division) against Apple Inc., STMicroelectronics N.V., and STMicroelectronics, Inc. (Case No. 1:25-cv-01768). The complaint alleges infringement of U.S. Patent Nos. 6,813,138; 6,969,912; and 7,035,082, which cover embedded microelectronic capacitor technologies that improve signal integrity and efficiency in high-density semiconductor devices.
The Patented Technology
The asserted patents generally relate to embedded capacitor architectures designed to enhance the electrical performance of microelectronic systems. These capacitor innovations are critical in the design and manufacturing of MEMS sensors, logic boards, and compact circuit assemblies found in today’s smartphones and tablets.
Allegations Against Apple
DynaCap alleges that multiple Apple products use embedded capacitor structures that practice the patented designs. The complaint also highlights Apple’s significant engineering presence in Austin, Texas, where thousands of hardware and SoC engineers design and test Apple components.
Allegations Against STMicroelectronics
The lawsuit further accuses STMicroelectronics of manufacturing and selling MEMS sensors that incorporate the patented capacitor technology. According to the complaint, these sensors are supplied to Apple and other technology companies for integration into various consumer devices.
